The “Vegetables ESL” app teaches 28 words for vegetables in five groups. The “Kids’ favourites” group teaches the words for six vegetables: carrots, corn, a cucumber, fries (potatoes deep fried), peas and tomatoes. The “Green vegetables” are asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, celery, green beans and zucchini. There are other green vegetables in other groups, of course (especially the “leafy” group). “Bright-colored vegetables” include an eggplant, a mushroom, peppers, a pumpkin, and yellow beans.. “Leafy vegetables” are bok choy, kale, lettuce, spinach and swiss chard. “Root vegetables” are beets, an onion, potatoes, radishes, a turnip and a yam.
Of course there are many other vegetables that are not included in this app. Ask a member of your community if you need to know a particular word, or use a translation program on the internet to find the English word for a vegetable that is not found in this app.
This suite of eight user-friendly apps is intended to introduce vocabulary to students who are learning English.
In all activities in each app, students will see a graphic, read the English word, and hear the word spoken by an accomplished teacher. Students are invited to participate in four activities: "Lets learn" (words are repeated with ample time for the student to practice saying them); "Lets practice" (a drag and drop activity matching printed words with pictures); "Lets play" (a game in which students match graphics and sound); and "Quiz" (students must choose the correct picture for a written and spoken word). Even young students who do not yet read will be able to use all activities because the sound is always attached to graphics and word boxes.
